Mashable declares “Google’s got a monster on its hands” with Buzz
Posted by: Alex Erasmus
Social Media site Mashable asked its community what the number one reason people found themselves using Buzz (and therefore why it had gained traction so quickly). The summary?
· Easy to use
· Accessible
· Convenient
· Closer social circle
· Moves in real-time
· Engaging
While one might argue this is a list that any Social Media platform would be aiming to achieve, it’s easier said than done.Probably the most important factor is that Buzz is integrated into Gmail; people don’t have to migrate to yet another platform, which is vitally important in an era where people are spoilt for choice when it comes to online interaction.
Because of the convenience of Buzz as part of Gmail, Mashable reckon Buzz has over 38 million users already in the US alone, with Twitter on approximately 18-25 million worldwide.
So what’s next? Ben Parr of Mashable believes Buzz is the game-changer Google has been searching for. He points to the fact that people only have so much time in their daily lives. The explosion of Social Media and its multitude of platforms has been much-talked about, but I believe this can’t go on forever. General users don’t want to check in to several different sites and they don’t always want to use a tool like FriendFeed or Ping.fm to send the same message to different social/ business groups. Integration is the way forward and Google Buzz looks to be where it’s at.
